I'm Better, But Not Totally Delivered

Aug 16, 2026    Supt Carlton C. Spruill

What does it mean to be better but not fully delivered? That question sits at the heart of a powerful exploration of Mark 8:22-25, where Jesus heals a blind man in a way that stops us in our tracks. The healing does not happen all at once. The man looks up and sees people walking like trees -- he has gained something, but he has not yet gained everything. This is not a story about Jesus falling short. It is a story about us. It is a mirror held up to the church, revealing how many of us have experienced enough of God to be encouraged but have not yet surrendered deeply enough to be fully transformed. The message calls us to honest self-awareness, the kind that admits we are still in process, still in need of another touch. There is no shame in that admission. In fact, it is the beginning of wholeness. We are invited to stop settling for partial sight and to allow God to complete what He started in us, even when the method of our deliverance is not what we expected or chosen.
