Surviving Surrender

Sep 27, 2026

What happens when we step into the light and still find danger waiting for us? This message digs into one of the most overlooked realities of the Christian walk: that accepting Christ does not mean we leave all opposition behind. Drawing from the story of Nehemiah, we are walked through the experience of a man who received a God-given burden to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, only to face resistance from forces both outside and inside the community of faith. The central spiritual lesson here is striking and sobering. Sometimes it is just as dangerous within the body of Christ as it is outside of it. The symbolism embedded in the names of Nehemiah's opponents, one whose name means God is good and another whose name points toward a false god, forces us to ask a hard question: are we, the people who bear God's name, sometimes the very ones frustrating his work? This message calls us to a place of honest self-examination and righteous accountability, reminding us that as long as we carry our flesh, we carry something that is not fully surrendered to the will of God.
